This framed work is inspired by Will's 'Text Vases' which are executed in the moment, as the words and symbols occur, in electrical tape. This tape acts as a resist and is pealed off once it has been glazed to reveal the naked clay, before going into the kiln.

 

This resist method is used for his monoprints on paper, using electrical tape and black spray paint to expose the clay-coloured papers beneath.

Will Martin is an installation artist working mainly in ceramics. He sees his individual artworks as potential components for his immersive environments. His Contemporary Art History background informs his references while his rootedness in ceramic gives him access to obscure and distant traditions.

 

Will works from his home studio in Camberwell (London) and his recent explorations have focused on immediate and humorous expressions of his emotional state.
